I can confirm there were several military contracts for the Detonics. I was with Energy Sciences Associates (ESA) from 1977 through 1980 as VP Marketing and Business Development for the explosives and weapons systems research and development programs. Detonics was a subsidiary R&D limited partnership within the ESA umbrella of partnerships. The SEAL contract in late '78 caused the creation of the stainless versions. From this came the stainless "Combat Master" series. I still have one with my initials as the official fed registry on the frame.
I am also aware, since as stated, I ran the marketing for the weapons and explosives at ESA, that other "gubmint" contracts were completed during the period. Including USAF pilot models for flight suit carry. Part of that involvement included building the first 9mm versions. We also had several contracts for special ops stainless versions made for USMC and various other military users, where barrel extensions and silencer tubes were part of the orders. Most of these were specific small quantity orders. At that time we built special presentation models for retiring military and we supplied regular models to the US Secret Service and other law enforcement.

I left ESA in the spring of 1980 when the fabrications of the two principals far stretched anyone's imagination.

I lost contact with Sid Woodcock and most of the folk at Detonics and ESA when the financial problems took down that convoluted house of cards. I was aware that Detonics was moved to the Phoenix area by a couple of the limited partners. I do not know the details of Detonics from that point other than I had heard it started up again in a town just south of Chicago...

For the record I still have in my files some of the marketing materials we used at the major gun shows, IACP conferences, military and law enforcement conferences.
