Doing searches here and on the Detonics Collectors forum is one of the best ways to gain info about all kinds of Combat Masters, including special guns. If you'll just do some homework, then others like myself won't have to type the same info out again and again. Not being critical of you here; just informing you of what to do. You'll learn a lot.

There were actually many special serial numbers that came out of the Seattle/Bellevue Detonics 45 plant. Just being a friend of an upper level employee or administrator, or a supplier of parts or services to the company was all it took to get one. Of course, employees who built their own guns did special serial numbers too.

Employees also often did something "special" to their own guns, sometimes just to personalize it, but very often they would later sell the gun with the label that it's a "collector's item" to try to enhance the price. It was actually quite common for them to do this, so there's plenty of "collector's items" out there that really shouldn't be considered as being worth that much more, (even if an employee wrote up a flattering piece of paper extolling the "uniqueness" of the gun). There's enough of those around too.

I'm not trying to bring you down about your gun here. I just want you to know the facts. Does it feed and function like it should? I've seen some special serial numbered guns that couldn't get through a magazine without a jam. I've seen others that were downright unsafe! Then, after looking into the piece, seen that all the internal parts were "seconds", or had been swapped out for parts from some other 1911 variant, while the seller kept the original factory stainless parts for himself; possibly to use in a later gun, or sell at a gun show, or some such. But none the less, he sold it as if it was a super deal. There were some unscrupulous employees back then. Hopefully, you gun didn't come from one of them.

Here's hoping you got a good one!
