That's an historic collection alright. I've seen a lot of it at the Puyallup gun show in Washington. I used to talk with him at his table right up until his health would no longer allow him to attend. Col Gideon was an outright fanatic about Detonics guns.

Your s/n 25xx will most likely be a problem child unless it gets into the hands of the former head gunsmith. He was the one that did the production engineering for Detonics USA in Georgia. He fixed a lot of the older guns there. Even then it may require top end parts replacements to function correctly. The frame is likely to be workable, but the slide and barrel may have to be replaced in order to have a piece that would be carryable for self defense. (Your old parts could be kept for collectors purposes).

I'd be hesitant to send it to anybody that simply "bought the rights" to the Detonics name and logo. You could get burned. They won't have the experience of fixing the "oldies" like yours.

We'll have to wait and see where that gunsmith resurfaces; likely in another gun company somewhere. When he does, that will be the place to send your "problem child".
