Like a lot of guns, value is in the mind of the collector. The older Detonics guns were few in number, and almost any Detonics gun has some collectible value. But many buyers of the old guns want them for their intended purpose -- as a carry weapon. Not many "New Detonics" Series II guns were made, so they are collectible. Some of these guns had versions with special coatings, and those are even more collectible. But many people regard the "New Detonics" guns that were made in Arizona (mostly these are the Series II guns) as inferior to the Seattle/Bellevue guns as far as the workmanship. One former Detonics gunsmith put it this way to me when he opened up and examined the workmanship on one of the "Series II" New Detonics pistols: "Your gun needs a new gun." But others have different opinions, and I don't claim to have my own expertise in pistolsmithing. Some people with a lot more knowledge than I have think the Series II guns were just fine.

If you want a collectible, hang onto that Scoremaster. Your gun has some sentimental value, too. If you want one to shoot and are willing to part with it, sell it to a collector and get one of the new models from Detonics USA. The value will depend on the condition, but $850 to $1100 for a Series II Scoremaster is an approximate range. That is about the right amount to put you behind one of the new models. The 9-11-01 has received good reviews, and reportedly they will have a ScoreMaster out pretty soon. If you like a smaller gun, the ServiceMaster is coming soon too. It has the commander-sized slide. The frame is the same size, though, so you might want to put a set of thinner grips on it.
