According to another posting here, the new company, Detonics USA, has sights that will retrofit the old Combat Master. Those would be a fixed sight, but there might be one with replaceable inserts to change elevation. However, a lot of the old Combat Masters out there have been worked on by people -- including pistol smiths -- who don't really understand how the gun works and think a dremel tool, a magazine article about changing the feed ramp, and a six pack of cheap beer will improve what some very skilled craftsmen at the old Detonics factory spent a lot of time getting "just right." I learned this the hard way when I bought a used gun and did not realize it had been modified this way until the gun was inspected by a former pistol maker from the Seattle Detonics factory. There are a lot of old Combat Masters that were damaged by well-meaning "garage gunsmiths" over the years. So, given that your gun has lost its sight, you might check with the Detonics USA factory to see whether they can install a new sight for you and inspect the gun for other issues. They are pretty busy in 2005 getting the new guns out, so you might need to wait or find another source for the inspection. But make sure the person who inspects it has significant experience with the Combat Master.
One of the most important things about keeping the Combat Master running right is the choice of ammunition. Another thing is the type of magazine you use. If you scan other postings here and on the Yahoo Collectors board, you'll find a lot of information posted by others, based on their experience. For magazines get the new Detonics USA magazines. A second choice would be the other Metalform magazines made specifically for the Combat Master. Some ammo choices for the Combat Master include Hornady 200 gr Hollow Point (XTP), Speer Gold Dot, and Winchester (white box) SXTs. The lighter PMC is ok. Rounds that have proved troublesome for many include Federal PDF 165 loads and any of the "+P " loads. Ammo from the following makers seems to have more trouble with the old Combat Master: Corbon; Remington; Wolf; and Sellier & Bellot.
Others may have different or more experience than I do with the different loads, and you'll find some of their comments on these boards.
